800G 2xVR4/VR8 OSFP-IHS Finned-top OM4 850nm 50m Dual MPO-12 Ethernet/InfiniBand Transceiver, MSA Compliant
The VO-8CVR8CM-AA is an 800G OSFP VR8 transceiver in a twin-port IHS finned-top form factor, purpose-built for short-reach AI fabric connections inside a row. It supports 8x 106.25 Gb/s PAM4 lanes over multi-mode fiber with VCSEL technology, delivering 800 Gb/s aggregate throughput up to 50m on OM4 (30m on OM3) via dual MPO-12 APC connectors. Two independent optical engines enable a native 2x 400G-VR4 breakout for high-density leaf-to-NIC links.
Reference platforms: NVIDIA Spectrum-4 (SN5600), Spectrum-X800 (SN6000), Quantum-2 (QM9700/QM9790), Quantum-X800 (Q3400/Q3200) with ConnectX-7 NICs. Compliant with IEEE 802.3ck, OSFP MSA, and CMIS 5.0.

Q: Is the Vitex 800G OSFP VR8 compatible with NVIDIA switches?
A: Yes. This module is validated on NVIDIA Spectrum-4 (SN5600), Spectrum-X800 (SN6000), Quantum-2 (QM9700/QM9790), and Quantum-X800 (Q3400/Q3200) switches with ConnectX-7 NICs. It is not compatible with the older Quantum (QM8700/QM8790) generation. Contact Vitex engineering for additional platform validation.
Q: What is the difference between VR8, SR8, and DR8?
A: VR8 (Very-short Reach) supports 50m on OM4 multi-mode and targets in-row AI fabric links. SR8 (Short Reach) supports 100m on OM4. DR8 (medium reach) uses single-mode fiber for 500m reach in row-to-row links. VR8 is the lowest-cost short-reach 800G option for compact AI clusters.
Q: Can I run this as 2x 400G-VR4?
A: Yes. The twin-port design exposes two independent 4-lane VR4 ports natively. Use a Vitex M12F2M12FOM4-B2 breakout cable to fan out to two 400G ConnectX-7 NICs or BlueField-3 DPUs in 400G mode.
Q: What cable polarity do I need?
A: Type B (reversed) polarity for parallel optics. Connectors must be female (unpinned) on the transceiver side because the OSFP MPO ports are male (pinned). The Vitex M12FOM4-B2 patch cable matches these requirements directly.
Q: What is the link power budget?
A: VR8 is specified for OM4 at 50m. Plan for connector loss (~0.35 dB each end) plus fiber attenuation (~0.15 dB at 50m). Total expected loss is ~0.85 dB, well inside the VR8 budget. Always clean MPO endfaces before mating.
Q: How does Vitex compare to other optics vendors?
A: Vitex provides US-based engineering support from our New Jersey HQ, free pre-sales technical consultation. All products are MSA-compliant for cross-platform interoperability.
Q: What is the typical use case?
A: AI training cluster fabric within a row, GPU-pod-to-spine connections, top-of-rack switch to NIC links, and any 800G connection where the run is under 50m and multi-mode fiber is already deployed or preferred for cost.
