A: A 1.6T OSFP DR8 is a 1.6 Tb/s optical module in the OSFP224 form factor that uses 8 parallel single-mode fibers at 212.5 Gb/s PAM4 per lane. Reach is 500m on standard SMF with dual MPO-12 APC connectors. It also supports a 2x 400G-DR4 breakout mode.

Q: Is the Vitex 1.6T OSFP DR8 production-ready today?
A: This module is currently available as engineering samples for switch and NIC qualification. Production availability tracks the broader 1.6T ecosystem rollout. Contact Vitex engineering for the latest roadmap and sample availability.

Q: Which switches and NICs support 1.6T today?
A: 1.6T host support is still in early stages across the industry. We are actively validating against early-access 1.6T switch and NIC silicon. Reach out to Vitex engineering for the current compatibility matrix.

Q: Can I break out the 1.6T DR8 into 2x 400G-DR4?
A: Yes. The module exposes two independent 4-lane DR4 optical engines. With a suitable breakout MPO-12 to 2x MPO-12 cable, you get two 400G-DR4 ports for connection to 400G endpoints over up to 500m SMF.

Q: What standards does the Vitex 1.6T DR8 follow?
A: OSFP MSA mechanical and electrical, IEEE P802.3dj for 1.6T Ethernet, OIF CEI-224G-VSR-PAM4 for the host electrical interface, and CMIS 5.3 for module management. KP4 FEC is performed on the host platform.

Q: What fiber and patch cable do I need?
A: Standard single-mode fiber (G.652.D) with MPO-12 APC connectors on both ends. The transceiver MPO ports are male (pinned), so patch cables must be female (unpinned) on the transceiver side. See the Vitex M12FOM4 series for matched fiber assemblies.
