Vitex Talks | The power of USB-C: exploring the past, present, and future of USB-C power delivery

In this 5-minute Vitex Talks segment, we’ll discuss the power delivery option of USB-C, which is a standard that has been around since its introduction in 2012. With some benefits of USB-B power delivery including but not limited to improved power delivery, shortened time needed to reach a full charge, and a new standard for USB power delivery. 

The previous USB-C standard was limited to around 2.5 watts. The new power delivery option has the capability to go much higher, up to 65 watts and even up to 100 watts, with more standards being developed to bring this power even higher. This is beneficial for power management optimization in various devices such as laptops, routers, and hard drives. With the use of the USB-C power delivery standard, devices can be charged in as little as 15 to 30 minutes, which is a significant improvement compared to the previous standard.

In addition to charging, the USB-C power delivery option has the potential for various applications beyond handheld devices. For instance, it could be used in security cameras where there is a need to extend the range beyond the limitations of copper cable. The use of fiber optics can help overcome these limitations, and hybrid cables that combine both fiber and copper cables are also available.
